The term Nakshi kantha has been a very popular trend nowadays. Nakshi kantha is a type of artistic quilt. 'Nakshi' means pattern or embroidery  and 'kantha' means quilt. So, 'Nakshi Kantha' means embroidered quilt. The name 'Nakshi Kantha' became famous after Jassimuddin's world famous poem 'Nakshi Kanthar Math'. Nakshi kantha is a popular part in Bengali literature. Nobody knows when the trend started but it has been going on for hundreds of years. The method of making nakshi kantha is totally manual. It's made by stitching on old or new clothes with various patterns with threads and needles. To make colourful designs colourful needles are needed. Womens make various designs of these quilts. Generally, the natural beauty of Bangladesh takes place there. Rural women make these quilts for home or commercial  purposes. Traditional nakshi kathas are for family use.  They earn money by selling and exporting the Nakshi Kanthas to different foreign countries. Nakshi kanthas are sold in various handicraft shops of cities. This culture is also practised in the West Bengal of India. Foreign countries have a great demand for nakshi kanthas. Giving nakshi kantha as a wedding gift is an amazing choice. A culture doesn't live by itself. It's our duty to keep it alive for long. We all should use Nakshi Kantha to introduce the generation with it.
